This resource pack can be used when teaching using capital letters for names and places.
It is the introductory lesson in the group - focuses only on names of people and places. ~This is one part of a grammar pack for year 1.
It is based on the grammar outcomes outlined in the 2014 National Curriculum.
The pack includes:
PowerPoint presentation that models and explains when to use capital letters
Three individual worksheets
Sorting activity (sorting capital and lower case letters)
Handwriting worksheets to allow students to practice writing capital and lowercase letters.

A PowerPoint presentation that explains when to use the ‘an’ and ‘a’ correctly. PowerPoint explains the rule to help students remember when they need to use each word. Suitable for KS2.
The presentation works through examples of words and asks students to identify when to use each article correctly.
Also included are four activities based on the lesson. This lesson is suitable for KS2 with three differentiated activities.
Activity 1:
Students are given ten sentences with blank spaces. They will then use the rule from the lesson to decide whether they use ‘a’ or ‘an’.
Activity 2:
Students are given images of various words. They will then write ‘an’ or ‘a’ before the words describing each image.
Activity 3:
Students will be given a range of sentences with ‘an’ or ‘a’ missing. These will be cuts out. Students will decide whether they insert 'an' or 'a'. Once this is done students can work independently or collaboratively to sort the sentences onto a Carroll diagram.

This resources contains a PowerPoint presentation that explains what a contraction is, how it is formed and works through common examples of these.
Also included are 4 worksheets based on the PowerPoint, students will be asked to insert the correct contraction, form contractions and identify which two words made a specific contraction.
This resource is suitable for KS2 as an introduction to contractions or when recapping on the topic.
